Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a fighting game released in 2008 by Nintendo for their shiny Wii console. It is the third installment of the Smash Bros. series, following Super Smash. Bros (N64, 1999)
and Super Smash Bros. Melee (NGC, 2001). The games differ from most fighting
games, since the player usually has to deplete a life bar, while in the SSB
series, the more damage the opponent gets, the more likely he is to be knocked
out.
As playable characters, the game features various characters from different franchises, many returning from Melee, but not only: the player can spot famous characters such as Mario, the ever-present plumber, the hero Link from The Legend of Zelda, Kirby and Pikachu. Brand new, shiny characters include Ike from Fire Emblem, Pit from Kid Icarus, the hedgehog Sonic and Snake from MGS.
Complete list of characters:
Characters such as Mewtwo, Pichu (both from Pokemon), Young Link from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Roy (Fire Emblem 6) appeared in Melee but did not return in Brawl. However many characters, like Master Hand, born in the SSB series and boss from the characters' series appeared as enemies.
As a feature not included in previous games, Brawl features a RPG-like,
side-scrolling adventure called The Subspace Emissary where, yes, your goal is
still defeat all enemies fighting, but you get to play as all characters and
watch voiceless cutscenes with a screwed-up story.
